Key to the heart of the
Almanac is the opportunity of Saint Paul residents to be published alongside such Saint Paul literary icons as Gordon Parks, Garrison Keillor, and Meridel Le Sueur. This intertwining of professional writers with nonprofessional community voices reflects the
Almanac's understanding that art and the recognition of artists is inseparable from the soul of a community. Community editors from across Saint Paul search out stories from our diverse neighborhoods.
Along with publishing the annual
Saint Paul Almanac book, we do the following:
• organize and record readings and performances of Saint Paul writers, musicians, and artists
• showcase Saint Paul writers, residents, and businesses on our website
• sponsor an annual writing contest with the Saint Paul Public Schools
• host an annual downtown party celebrating living in Saint Paul.
With both a contemporary and historical focus, and an emphasis on discovery, the
Almanac brings you a many-faceted Saint Paul, old and new.
Our important work needs your support. Donations to the
Almanac are tax-deductible for U.S. taxpayers, and will help in all areas of our work, whether increasing the breadth of our audience or reaching out to promote writing and reading in our city.
